This sketch is a little nod to the historic shipbuilding industry that flourished in Belfast during the early 1900's.
Shipbuilding and Linen were Belfast's exporting gold. These industries gave Belfast worldwide status that attracted tradesmen and women from all over Ireland to settle and make a better life for themselves.
Yes, the Titanic story is fascinating. But I found the life and times of working men and women much more interesting. The Titanic museum conveys this beautifully. I was transported back in time to my grandparent's era imagining them as children when their fathers worked in the shipyard.
A few years ago this area was dull and derelict. Now it's a space buzzing with life and opportunity. It's the new Belfast skyline for me. A welcoming 'hello' and a clear indication you're in Belfast.
